A couple of specific examples from the Finance industry came to me… if there was just one psychic who could accurately predict the future even some of the time, the world would be a completely different place.
Firstly, there’s this guy in France who’s got a contract with Aviva where he can trade at last week’s prices – which is the same as predicting the future.
You can read more in this Forbes article but the summary is that he’ll probably end up owning Aviva France because he’s making 70% return on his money, every year.
If seeing the future was possible, the financial markets wouldn’t function.
Secondly, there are people who know what’s going to happen in the stock market – insiders. Insider Trading utterly devastating to the orderly functioning of markets and hence is illegal. Of course, insider information is also jealously sought out by traders!
If psychics could predict the future, they’d be the richest people on earth. Hopefully they’d use this awesome power to take from the rich and give to the poor!
Either way, if even a few people had the ability to predict the future, the world would be a very very different place.
Don’t let a “psychic” tell you they can predict the future, and don’t let yourself seize on something you’re told and believe it will certainly happen. It doesn’t work like that.
I’d argue that anyone claiming to be able to predict the future is not a psychic and instead a con merchant.
